Overview

SoulChat is an AI companion app designed to provide emotional support and conversation. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how your data is handled. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Account & Identity

SoulChat does not require you to create a traditional account. There are no email addresses, phone numbers, or passwords. Your identity is tied to your device's unique identifier (IDFV) provided by iOS. This means:

• No personal credentials: We never ask for your name, email, phone number, or social media accounts.
• Device-based identity: Your conversations are linked to your device, not to a personal profile.
• Reinstalling the app: If you reinstall SoulChat on the same device, your identity is restored automatically. If you switch devices, a new identity is created.

Conversations & Chat Data

Your conversations with AI characters are processed as follows:

• Free users: Chat history is retained for 3 days on our servers, then automatically deleted.
• Pro subscribers: Chat history is retained for the duration of your subscription.
• AI processing: Your messages are sent to our AI provider (DeepSeek) to generate responses. The AI provider processes your text to generate a reply and does not store your conversations long-term.
• Account deletion: You can erase all your chat data at any time via Settings → Erase My Data. This clears all local and server-side conversation history immediately.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• No location data: SoulChat never accesses your GPS location.
• No contacts: We never access your address book or contact list.
• No photos: SoulChat does not access your photo library (MVP version).
• No browsing history: We do not track your web activity.
• No third-party tracking SDKs: No Facebook SDK, no Google Analytics, no ad networks.

Microphone & Voice Input

SoulChat offers optional voice-to-text input using Apple's built-in Speech Recognition framework. When you use this feature:

• Your voice is processed locally by iOS Speech Recognition.
• Audio is not recorded, stored, or transmitted to our servers.
• Only the transcribed text is sent as a chat message.
• You can revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings → SoulChat.

Subscription & Payments

SoulChat Pro is available as a monthly ($2.99) or annual ($29.99) subscription, processed entirely by Apple's StoreKit framework:

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account, not to us directly.
• We receive a notification from Apple when your subscription status changes (active, expired, refunded).
• We store your subscription status and expiration date to manage your Pro features. We do not store credit card information.

Data Security

• All API communication is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
• Device authentication uses JWT tokens (HS256 signed).
• Each user's data is physically isolated by user ID at the database level.
• Sensitive content (self-harm, violence) is filtered by both keyword detection and the AI model's built-in safety measures.

Crisis Resources

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, SoulChat's AI characters are designed to provide warm, supportive conversation and share crisis resources. However, SoulChat is not a substitute for professional mental health care. If you are in immediate danger, please contact:

• Emergency: Call 911 or your local emergency number

Children's Privacy

SoulChat is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided information through SoulChat, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your Rights

• Access: You can view your conversation history within the app.
• Deletion: Use "Erase My Data" in Settings to permanently delete all your data.
• Data export: Pro users can export their conversation history as a text file.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of SoulChat after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
